DUBLIN AIRPORT BECOMES FAN-FAVOURITE WITH CELTIC SUPPORTERS AFTER TWITTER ANTICS
It’s fair to say that the Dublin Airport Twitter admin has had fun over the past few days with Celtic’s win over Rangers.
The Bhoys beat their Old Firm rivals on penalties in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals at Ibrox, after playing out an aggressive 0-0 draw in normal time.
It went to penalties, and Celtic came out on top after James Tavernier’s shot smashed off the bar and Djeidi Gassama skied his over the bar as Celtic advanced to the semi-finals, where they’ll face St. Mirren.
There was chaos at the final whistle as fans invaded the pitch, and violence broke out between supporters.
Chief Constable Jo Farrell said they need to ‘eliminate those individuals who come in and have prepared the balaclavas and have the pyrotechnics in order with the intent of causing disruption and harm to those other people around them.’
Nine people were arrested in the aftermath as both sides are expected to be punished for their fans’ behaviour. While the violence on the pitch may have overstepped the mark, the banter off it has caught the eye of many.
It all started on Sunday night when Dublin Airport posted a tweet saying that two balls with ‘RFC’ (Rangers Football Club) were found on their runway, presumably after the two Rangers penalties that went over the bar.
They then followed it up on Tuesday with a post about the number of Scottish fans expected to travel over for Saturday’s Six Nations game against Ireland, and that they’ll return the balls to their rightful owners.
These two tweets have earned the Airport fan-favourite status with Hoops fans online. ‘Dublin Airport Twitter account very quickly becoming my new favourite account on here,’ posted one fan on X.
A couple of fans were grateful for the few days of laughter from the Airport. ‘Tremendous work from the comms team these last few days. Greatly appreciated.’ ‘Oh, deep joy. The red, white, and blue look a bit battered; it must have been that journey. Did they use Ryanair?’
Meanwhile, one fan leaked Celtic’s new kit for next season with a very fitting sponsor.
