‘YOU ARE LIVING IN CUCKOO LAND’ – ROY KEANE ASSESSES ENGLAND’S EUROS CHANCES AHEAD OF SWITZERLAND CLASH

England are counting down to their Euro 2024 quarter-final against Switzerland on Saturday and Roy Keane has warned they are unlikely to show any real signs of improvement after a disappointing start to the tournament.

Gareth Southgate’s side have stumbled into the last eight in Germany, with Jude Bellingham’s last-gasp goal and Harry Kane’s extra-time winner against Slovakia last Sunday keeping England’s hopes alive.

They will need a dramatic improvement to get past Switzerland this weekend, with Keane telling ITV Sport that he is not expecting a big shift in momentum from England in their next match.

"If you think Gareth and his staff are going to fix that in the next two weeks you're living in cuckoo land," said Keane.

"Move onto the next game. They've got some momentum. Football's about winning at the top level."

“It's about surviving, it's about staying in the competition. They're staying in the fight. England keep swinging. I wouldn't be writing England off, far from it."

Keane also suggested England’s staying power in the competition should be admired, even if their performances been woefully below par.

“You talk about performances, but also at this level it is about getting over the line and winning,” added the former Ireland captain.

“Everyone wants a great performance, but if they keep getting results and going through? The next game always seems tough for you and if you perform like that you’re going to go out.

“But lets see how they go. You have to give them praise. We were very critical at halftime, but they found a way to win.

“The top players found a moment. God help us when Bellingham starts playing well, but he produced huge moments and they’re getting over the line.

“You have to give credit where it’s due. They found a way to win, you have to give them credit for that. Some of the greatest satisfaction I’ve had in my career is where you didn’t play well but you win a game of football.”
