A drink driver who left a footballer needing his leg amputated when she crashed into him with her Mercedes has been jailed for more than two years.
Anna Malgorzata Bogusiewicz, 45, was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and drink driving after she crashed into Jordan Chiedozie, 31, on the hard shoulder of the M27 on February 1 last year.
She had attempted to make four video calls immediately before the crash.
But when police spoke to Bogusiewicz the next day, she took no responsibility and even called herself 'an amazing driver'.
Mr Chiedozie, a former Bournemouth striker, was put into an induced coma and lost his right leg, suffered open fractures on his left leg and a cracked pelvis.
He stayed in hospital for six weeks as he underwent multiple operations.
He had been returning from a football match for Southern League side Bashley FC at Tavistock AFC alongside club physio Reighan Taylor when the 'terrible collision' took place as he was changing a tyre on the VW Golf near Ower, Hampshire.
On Friday, Bogusiewicz, a dental technician from Wraysbury, Berkshire, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison at Southampton Crown Court.
The 45-year-old, who described herself as an 'amazing driver', has been disqualified from driving for three years.
Bogusiewicz was found to have 60 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath and a later test showed 55 micrograms. The legal limit is 35 micrograms.
Mr Chiedozie was an academy player for AFC Bournemouth from 2007 before being loaned out to various clubs and sold in 2014.
Reading his victim personal statement in court, Mr Chiedozie described waking up by the side of the road, unable to move except to crawl and feeling pain in his legs.
He said: 'Before, my life was simple. I played football professionally and then part-time as well as working as a roofer every day.
'Things I loved to do. Every singular one of those things are no longer easy.
'I would love my life to be normal again. But it won't be because of one day that changed everything.'
He also thanked the doctors for their work.
Reighan Taylor described leaving her job and moving away from Southampton as a result of this incident.
Daniel Santos-Costa, mitigating, told the court that Bogusiewicz, who has no previous convictions, claims she was driving on the hard shoulder as she hadn't felt safe on the road due to the lack of lights.
He said: 'This is a case where I can say this is the most compelling remorse I have ever experienced. She is devastated; she is absolutely distraught.
'She knows that no matter how much she wants to, she can't undo what she did.'
DC Joy Jarvis, of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, said: 'There is absolutely no excuse for getting behind the wheel of any vehicle when you are impaired from drinking alcohol.
'This terrible collision, which has changed a man's life, could have easily been avoided if the defendant hadn't made that selfish decision to drive while drunk.'
